On Monday, 29 June 2026, participants of the International Summer School “Sustainable Development of the Yachting and Cruise Industry” took part in a field visit to Luka Milošević’s aquaculture shellfish farm.
The visit provided participants with a practical introduction to mussel and oyster farming and demonstrated how small-scale mariculture can contribute to sustainable local development, food production, tourism diversification and the wider Blue Economy.
During the visit, participants had the opportunity to observe the farm environment, learn about shellfish cultivation practices, and discuss the connection between aquaculture, coastal communities and sustainable maritime tourism. The activity complemented the lectures delivered within Thematic Module 1: Sustainable Development of Nautical and Cruising Tourism, especially topics related to coastal and maritime tourism, aquaculture, environmental protection and local economic opportunities.
The visit also highlighted the potential of mariculture as part of an authentic tourism offer in the Bay of Kotor. Shellfish farms can provide educational experiences, strengthen awareness of marine ecosystems, promote locally produced seafood, and create new links between the tourism sector and traditional coastal livelihoods.
Through this field activity, the Kotor Summer School continued its practical learning approach, connecting classroom knowledge with real Blue Economy examples from the local maritime environment.
